Messi tops Beckham to become best-paid footballer

Barcelona's Lionel Messi has deposed David Beckham to top France Football's list of the highest-paid players.

The Argentina forward is said to have made 33 million ($44 million) last year.

Beckham, who has been first or second in each of the last nine years, took home 30.4 million ($40.5 million) in 2009, according to the report.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo was third with 30 million ($40 million), while teammate Kaka was a distant fourth with 18.8 million ($25 million). Thierry Henry was fifth with 18 million ($24 million).

Ravindra Jadeja's ban from the 2010 season of the IPL on grounds of contractual violations has been upheld.

The IPL's governing council had banned Jadeja for one season on instructions from Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president, because he failed to sign the renewal contract with Rajasthan for the ongoing season and attempted to negotiate a new contract with Mumbai. The decision was taken during a hearing chaired by Arun Jaitley, an eminent lawyer and head of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association, following representations from the player and the two franchises involved - Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. Ravindra Jadeja committed a breach on two counts; firstly, by not signing the contract with the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2010, wherein he wanted to declare himself free from contractual obligations and failed to discharge his obligations under the player trading rules. Secondly, Jadeja's act of meeting representatives of the Mumbai Indian franchise and sending his contract documents to them for inspection and his own admission that he received documents from Mumbai Indians and used them for representation purposes to the governing council, reveal that he was indeed guilty of breaching the operational rules by approaching another Franchise."
Jaitley upheld the ban after finding that "the player contrived a situation to his advantage by breaching the player trading rules and not signing his third year contract for IPL 2010 with the Rajasthan Royals", the league said in a statement and also recommended that Mumbai be warned for "having approached a player who was under an obligation to play for another franchise" and said "a more deterrent line of action should be considered" for future offences of this nature.

Mohammad Yousuf set to retire

Mohammad Yousuf is preparing to retire from all forms of international cricket, a direct result it is believed, of the treatment and punishment the PCB handed out to him in the aftermath of Pakistan's recent Australian tour of which he was captain. "I have decided to quit cricket," Yousuf told the Urdu-language daily Jang. "This is not an emotional decision. I consulted my family, friends and elders before taking it."

The board blamed Yousuf for spreading infighting and indiscipline within the side and banned him for an indefinite period - along with Younis Khan - from all forms of the international game. He was subsequently not included in the central contracts list for this year. Yousuf was handed an indefinite ban as per the recommendations of an inquiry committee

Yousuf had taken over the captaincy last year when Younis stepped down following an ODI series loss to New Zealand in Abu Dhabi, at a time he says no one was willing to take the responsibility. Though he hasn't yet specified the reasons behind his decision, it is believed that the PCB's punishment and a lack of support from the board have made his mind up for him.

If it is the final goodbye - and his current mood, say friends, indicates that he is serious - then Pakistan will lose the services of their most accomplished batsman of the decade alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq. He has over seven thousand Test runs from 88 Tests at 53.07, the highest for any Pakistani batsman. He has 39 international hundreds, including 24 in Tests alone. Pakistan are due to play six Tests in England this summer, a prospect they must now consider - if Younis also misses out - without either of their most formidable middle-order batsmen.

Networking basics

The most common way of describing a network is the International Standards Organization's Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model, also referred to as the OSI seven-layer model. The seven layers of the OSI model areas follows:

7 Application
6 Presentation
5 Session
4 Transport
3 Network
2 Data Link
1 Physical

Levels 1 through 3 are network specific, and will differ depending on what physical network you are using. Levels 4 through 7 comprise network-independent, higher level functions. Each layer describes a particular function (instead of a specific protocol) that occurs in data communications.
